13. MARKETING MECHANISMS & SUPPLY
Research into supply and marketing of pottery continues to be an on-going priority. Key questions to be addressed include the following: What are the types of marketing mechanism used in the region? Do these change with time? How much actual competition was there between pottery industries (ie. competition in comparable types of goods)? How far can mechanisms identified for the distribution of pottery be applied to other goods? How far does evidence of pottery flows reflect flows in other goods?
The examination of such questions should form part of the brief of most project designs for the region, and also provides a fertile domain for higher degree research.
