10. REGIONAL TYPE SERIES
Fulford and Huddleston (1991) identified the need for regional type series and suggested two based on the legionary centres of York and Chester. Unfortunately the legionary basis of York results in its ceramics being site specific and distinct from those of its hinterland for the first three centuries AD. Regional type series are, therefore, best derived from the regions as a whole rather than being based on individually important sites.
